It is early morning in Vancouver, and I was reflecting on my recent encounter with Esin, Rumi's great, great granddaughter in Turkey.
I met her initially at a conference where I was speaking. Thereafter we met for coffee, and she graciously invited me to her house for dinner. We had a great Turkish dinner and she gave me a wonderful gift of Mevlana's (how Rumi is remembered in Turkey) work throughout centuries.
What struck me about Esin was her humility, her giving nature and the melody in her voice. Her voice had a spiritual underpinning, hard to describe but very soothing. In her presence you felt calm and secured.
She had a kind of presence that gives energy and touches people. It is almost effortless - she inspires people just with her presence!
Part of that aura may be inherited from the great Rumi, but I bet a lot of it is also her own meditation and giving nature.
I was asking myself: What can I do in my life that creates such a presence - one that exudes positive energy and calmness to people who come across me?
And how about you? Won't that be great to wear that 'on your sleeve' as you meet your near and dear ones as well as strangers?
