There are a lot of things to do today -- as they are almost every day and every week and every year.
Everything will not get done. Even if you tick everything on your list there will be others that will find themselves conveniently parked on your ever growing list.
So what is the solution? Three things:
- Shrink your list to the bare minimum. Only put on your list things that you must do and not the ones that are just nice to do. Put things on your list that are aligned to your week's highest goals.
- Create daily rituals that make you do things that are important for you. I wake up very early most days (about 2 am!) and I start my day with 2 glasses of water followed by some reading, writing, journalling, meditation, exercise and 2 more glasses of water. I try to complete all this before 7 am. Why? Because if I don't do them first thing in the morning they don't get done!
- Some giving, like expressing love and appreciation to your spouse/partner and to your child, may need to be planned. This important habit that in our very busy lives sometimes gets forgotten! So if necessary, create a ritual around this - for example every day at breakfast or lunch or 6 pm, I will pour my heart to my child or spouse or parent with love and gratitude. What works for me is a small check list of things that I have created that I tick off every day which includes expressing love and appreciation to my wife, children and parents. The check list works as a reminder for me. Of course mean what you say. I know it sounds staged but it works.
How about you?
- How long is your "to do" list?
- What daily rituals have you created to help you get things that are important to you done?
- Do you regularly express love and appreciation to your near and dear?
